HP has announced that it is dumping the development of WebOS and soon after that it has slashed the prices of HP Touchpad massively. 16 GB version will cost you $99 and 32 GB version will cost you $149 and at once HP TouchPad has become the Hottest pick over the web, but the discontinued development and support of WebOS is still an issue for those who are looking out to buy the TouchPad, but it is still worth for its hardware (1.2GHz dual core processor, 9.7″ display, 1GB Memory makes it really HOT).
Note: Amazon still has HP TouchPad 16 GB and HP TouchPad 32 GB in stock.

Android on HP TouchPad
As everyone is thinking about the fate of WebOS and HP TouchPad, technology enthusiasts announced the TouchDroid project where they will be porting the latest Android OS to the HP TouchPad led by Thomas Sohmers.
Installing Android on the HP TouchPad
As of now there is no official release and the project is running at slow pace because the team hasn’t received their HP TouchPad yet and you can expect the good thing to happen once they receive their TouchPad (maybe in a couple of weeks).

I’ll wait first after the release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich before I will buy a new tab.
I am unsure of where you got your information on discontinued development and support of WebOS from but this is entirely untrue they have stopped producing the hardware but they are still going to develop and update webOS and apps will still come out, they have not stopped supporting the OS just the hardware but they will still fill any warranties and hardware faults.
What you said may be partly correct but HP is very clear and announced that it would discontinue production of all webOS devices, which directly means that it will not develop WebOS. anyways the official announcement on WebOS is still pending from HP. Till then everyone (according to me) should assume that HP discontinues WebOS development..
So you think HP will still develop app and updates for a discontinue item? i don’t think so. Luckily if there is someone who can actually create an android OS for his touchpad it would be worth the money but as it is may as well use your smartphone for web browsing
I personally work for HP and as far as the info we have been provided yes they have discontinued the HP Touchpad, they have not how ever discontinued support for the WebOS platform and will still bring updates out to the public and people will still develop apps for them for some time I can not tell you the plans for WebOS as that’s internal information and would most likely cost me my job but at this stage I am yet to see and “Official” statement from HP that says they will not be supporting WebOS. I must say I love android But after using WebOS it is the better of the two platforms even minus the lack of apps, altho go to Pre-central follow the guide to install homebrew on it and you have your sell another almost 600 apps inc ones to overclock your CPU to 1.5ghz stable atm
I was a lucky customer to get the HP touchpad. I have been using webOS and so far I feel that it is a great accomplishment from HP. If what Daniel said is true I will not be installing android on my touchpad. I feel that it is a rare item, of course it is not for everyone, but so far I like that this device is meeting my needs as a consumer. Applications can be tweaked a bit as well as the keyboard could use arrows. Nevertheless if they continue to support the operating system it will be an even greater device. Dual booting with Ubuntu should be worthwhile.
As it is, webOS is a good platform and you can continue using it if you feel it’s fine. But, it’s not certain if we could get new official apps for webOS. However, you always have the homebrew apps to fall back on.
Its kinda make confused, HP said that Touchpad will not produced anymore. Its a fail product they says… Ummm maybe we should wait for more
We just had round 2 of the internal HP sale on the touchpads – there is soo much demand that it brought the entire HP net to a crawl in the US and they introduced a 1 per employee limit. I was considering moto / apple etc but decided for the money – the hardware is NICE… I will def run android on it – at the least dual boot for testing etc. I also suspect we may see the hardware go another round or ten – depending on leadership (don’t get me started….). Hopefully the demand and instant market presence will show enough value to start selling them for the long term (probably at a different price point though).
i just bought a hp touchpad and either way it goes i am happy with the product so far… android i like, web os, as long as its still supported..
i will happy
You should also install Amazon app market as well, they offer one free app per day and a good way to build your collection…
