Mozilla Firefox has reached its next destination by adding up a number to its journey. In an announcement to the press, Mozilla Foundation has released “Firefox 5″ for desktop devices running Windows, Linux, Mac and for Android Platform as well. This is the quickest major release from Mozilla. (The earlier version Firefox 4 was released 3 months ago where as Firefox 3.5 released a year before that).

Firefox 5 includes more than 1000 performance enhancements which include enhanced support for HTML5 and support for new Cascading Styling Sheets (CSS) animations which makes the browsing experience superior. This release supports several web modern technologies which help developers in building Firefox add-ons, web apps & websites. The other features include better spell check support for more native languages, improved Java Script, memory and networking performance.

This release allows mobile users to tweak their privacy settings and allows them to enable “Do Not Track” feature which enhances the privacy of the users and makes Firefox the first ever browser to sport this feature on multiple platforms.

The interface of the new version looks similar when compared to the earlier one. The updates will be made available to the existing users by the inbuilt update mechanism and can also be downloaded from Firefox’s website.

The tentative date for the release of Firefox 6 is August 16th which is 2 months away.
